History

The band in concept was founded in 1994. The idea originated during the July 4th, 1994 Veterans Appreciation Day in Burton. Dale Bartholomew heard Bainbridge Township resident John Mackey play "Amazing Grace" and the two spoke about getting a bagpipe group started in Geauga. However, due to injuries Mackey sustained in the line of duty as a Maple Hts police officer, their idea was put on hold until March of 1995 when they formed the Geauga Highlanders.

For nearly 25 years, the Highlanders have been the ONLY bagpipe band in Geauga County and have played to hundreds of audiences throughout Northeast Ohio!

The Band's purpose is to preserve and promote an interest in Gaelic heritage, culture, and music. To provide an education to band members in the Gaelic music theory and skills required for highland bagpiping and highland drumming. Those interested in learning to play the bagpipes or drums, or those looking for a band to play with are encouraged to attend a GHPD practice.

The Band is proud to be able to offer scholarships to the Ohio Arts Scottish School.

The Geauga Highlanders Pipes & Drums perform at various events in northeast Ohio and are non-profit, tax exempt 501(3)(c) organization based in Geauga County.
